What are RSS Feeds?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) is a way for web sites to summarize their content, such as news articles or event announcements, and deliver headlines, descriptions, and links for quick and easy access to the information you want most. The information is delivered through a "feed." The feeds are collected by an RSS newsreader application.
Many web sites generate RSS feeds such as the BBC News (RSS), Yahoo News (RSS), and probably your favorite blog. You can find many RSS feeds at: Technorati, Feedster, and Syndic8.com.
How to use RSS Feeds
An RSS newsreader, sometimes called a news aggregator, sets up an automated delivery of information (a feed) to your desktop. It lets you read the information in the same newsreader interface. A newsreader may also help organize feeds for easy referral.
Many web browsers, including Mozilla's Firefox and Apple's Safari (Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger only) browsers, can read and display RSS feeds.
